Comment Policy

I love a good debate and I’m open to opinions other than my own. However, there are some rules, and some guidlines. Mostly, they fall under the category of “Don’t Be an Asshole.” However, after witnessing drama go down on several other blogs, I realize that I might have to spell it out.

  • Racist, homophobic, transphobic, sexist, ableist, and other slurs are not allowed. Period. End of sentence.
  • Similarly, do not make sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or otherwise bigoted comments. You don’t have to be using “bad words” to do this. Even if you try to be subtle, usually I can figure it out. Known bigots from elsewhere on the internet will have their comments immediately deleted. You’re probably not one of them; I can only think of 3 or 4 off the top of my head.
  • Disagree with ideas. Don’t attack people. Name-calling and insult-hurling are not allowed. Attacks or insults directed at me, other bloggers, or commenters will be deleted promptly. Examples of such: “You’re an idiot”, “Shut up, asshole” ,”Fuck off”, “Screw you”,  or “In your face”. Do not call me or another commenter a liar, however, you are permitted to poin out when something said is factually incorrect. You are, techically, permitted to personally attack public figures; however, it is rarely productive.
  • Don’t be a troll. Refrain from posting things that have little purpose other than to be inflammatory, offensive, or divisive.
  • Do not harass or threaten people. Do not post personal information about anyone else without their permission. (This includes me – if you know me, don’t post my last name, or school, for example). Do not “stalk” or intimidate people, especially me. Do not advocate harm or death to anyone, including public figures, even in jest.
  • Do not post defamatory or libelous statements. Don’t lie about other people. If it could be construed as insulting, and if you’re not sure if it’s true, check it out.
  • Anonymous comments are discouraged unless specifically allowed. You do not have to leave a real name or web adress – all I ask for is a nickname other than “anonymous” or some variant therof, and a working e-mail address. Comments lacking this, especially if they are of the assholeish variety, may be subject to deletion. However, when commenting about a sensitive subject or personal matters, feel free to remain anonymous as long as you are respectful. Typically, when posting about said subjects, I will specifically remark that anonymous comments are encouraged if needed.

Bottom line? Use common sense.

Oh yes, and my blog, my rules. If you think I’m violating your right to free speech, go re-read the first amendment.
